How the fees are counted
On eBay.com the calculator uses the fees of US sellers, checked against eBay's help pages on Oct 12, 2026. The fees of eBay UK, Canada, Australia and Germany were checked on Oct 17, 2026; they are in How SoldKeep works, site by site.
- Final value fee: a rate by category and Store tier on the total amount of the sale, which is the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays plus sales tax. Without a Store, most categories pay 13.6% up to $7,500 and 2.35% on the part above.
- Per-order fee: $0.30 when the total sale is $10.00 or less, $0.40 above $10.00.
- Sales tax: 7% by default (change it under More options; 0 turns it off). The buyer pays it and eBay passes it on, so it is never part of what you keep, but eBay charges its fee on it.
- Promoted General: your ad rate, 2% to 100%, on the same total as the final value fee.
- More options: Store tier, seller level (Top Rated Plus discount or Below Standard surcharge), international fee, currency conversion, your shipping label cost, other costs per order (packaging, supplies), and your own final value fee rate.
Each fee line is rounded to the cent. Not included: Promoted Priority (cost per click), Store subscription, insertion fees and dispute fees. Every rate by category, the rounding and the sources: How SoldKeep works.
Questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?
A final value fee plus a per-order fee. Without a Store, most categories pay 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500, shipping and sales tax included, plus $0.30 or $0.40 per order. eBay's own example: a $400 item with no shipping charge and 6% tax is a $424 total; 13.6% of it plus $0.40 is $58.06.
How do promoted listings change my profit?
Promoted General charges your ad rate on the total sale, the same base as the final value fee, when the item sells within 30 days of a click on the ad. Enter the rate under More options and it shows as its own fee line. With a price entered, the calculator also shows the highest whole rate that still keeps you at $0 or more ("Promoted up to N%"). Promoted Priority is cost per click and is not included.
What is the break-even price?
Once you enter an item cost, a shipping label cost or other costs per order, the answer shows the lowest item price from which you keep $0.00 or more at that price and at every higher price, with the same inputs.
Can it find the price for a target margin?
Yes. Open Find my price and switch "I want to keep" from $ to %, then enter the margin: what you keep as a share of the item price plus shipping. The answer is the lowest price that reaches it at that price and at every higher one; if no price can, it says so and names the highest margin your fees and costs allow.
Does eBay charge its fee on sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee applies to the whole total, sales tax included, even though the tax goes to the state. The calculator does the same and shows what the buyer pays under More options.
Why can a higher price pay a lower fee?
Women's bags and handbags, jewelry (not watches), bullion and athletic shoes take one rate on the whole total, chosen by the size of the total. Without a Store, a handbag sale that totals more than $2,000 pays 9% of all of it instead of 15%, and athletic shoes with a total of $150 or more pay 8% and no per-order fee.
Does it work for eBay sites outside the US?
Yes, for eBay UK, Canada, Australia and Germany: pick the site under I sell on. Each has its own fee table, seller types (private or business, Store or plan), VAT or GST status and, in Canada, the province, with amounts in that site's currency. The fees are those of the site where you list; your registration country under More options changes the international fee, the currency conversion and the tax on eBay's fees. With a special rate, enter your own final value fee rate under More options; it replaces the category rate and its thresholds.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The calculation runs in this page, in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere, and a reload starts from the defaults.
SoldKeep for Chrome
SoldKeep is a browser extension for eBay sellers. Run a search with the Sold filter on, and a summary right above the results shows the median of your sold comps and what you keep after fees and promoted ads. Fees follow the site where you list: eBay.com, eBay UK, Canada, Australia or Germany.
Add to ChromeWhat it does
- Sold results summary: the median, the middle half, the lowest and highest sale, how many sales were counted and the date of the latest one; separate auction and Buy It Now medians; a condition filter built from the cards you see; a second figure with shipping when most cards show it. Sign in to eBay first: since July 2026 eBay shows sold results only to signed-in users.
- Parts-only items, lots and as-is finds are left out, and so are outliers far from the rest. Each group sits in a chip with a count, and one click brings it back. When your query itself asks for parts, broken or lot items, they stay in.
- Only the cards already loaded are used: up to 240 when you choose that page size, never anything loaded in the background.
- On an item page: what the seller keeps at that price after eBay fees, a See sold comps button, and Use my cost to start the calculator from the item's price.
- Take-home badge in the Complete your listing form (eBay.com, eBay UK, Canada, Australia and Germany): a short line under the price shows what you keep, with the margin once you add what you paid. It never types into the form or changes anything there.
- Toolbar calculator: this calculator on any page, with your inputs kept for next time.
What the fees cover
The summary, the badge and the toolbar calculator use the fees above: the final value fee by category on the total with shipping and tax, the per-order fee, the Top Rated Plus discount or Below Standard surcharge, and Promoted General, international and currency conversion when switched on. Not counted: Promoted Priority, Store subscription, insertion and dispute charges. The full table: How SoldKeep works.
Privacy
The SoldKeep extension reads the eBay Sold results, item pages and listing form you open (eBay.com, eBay UK, Canada, Australia and Germany), inside your browser. It collects no data, makes no network requests of its own and has no account or analytics. It saves only your inputs and settings in your browser.
The calculator on this page stores and sends nothing you type. This site counts page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. Details are in the privacy policy.
